Truman Burbank is the central character in the 1998 satirical science fiction film, The Truman Show. He is portrayed by actor Jim Carrey.
Unbeknownst to him, Truman's entire life, from birth, has been meticulously staged and broadcast globally as a 24/7 reality television show. He resides in the idyllic, artificial town of Seahaven Island, which is actually a massive Hollywood set populated by actors.
Truman works a mundane office job and leads what he believes to be an ordinary life. However, subtle and increasingly obvious anomalies begin to chip away at his perception of reality, planting seeds of doubt about his surroundings.
Fueled by repressed memories of Sylvia, a former "actress" who tried to reveal the truth to him, and a growing suspicion of his controlled environment, Truman embarks on a journey to escape Seahaven and discover the reality beyond the fabricated world he has always known.
His quest leads him to the edge of the dome encompassing Seahaven, where he confronts Christof, the show's creator and director, before ultimately choosing freedom and stepping out into the real world.
